In our first mission, GreenMarineRePower will leverage the repower of 10,000+ boats before the end of 2012 with the most environmentally benign and forward-compatible propulsion technologies advisable.
Women, young adults, and people of color are chillingly under-represented in the recreational boating market in the United States. GreenMarineRePower sees tremendous long-term market potential by growing these overlooked markets. Consequently, and echoing a Green For All initiative, GreenMarineRePower seeks to employ a green army of young adults matching these demographics who have an interest in boating, but lack an avenue to develop that interest. How about a paying, playing job? All ethnicities and genders are encouraged.

By “leverage”, we mean leveraging consumer demand; spending the least, on the most, so that our clients purchase the best green propulsion product available that meets their need. If GreenMarineRePower only spends a dime to leverage our client spending a dollar, our initial funding would be nine times more potent in incubating green manufacturing to profitable economies of scale. We also mean to leverage manufacturing by collecting product use statistics, then analyzing and sharing that information through our Board of Directors, themselves industry manufacturers.
By "repower", an industry term for engine swapping, we intend point-source pollution reduction in an industry that is individually motivated and resistant to legislative coercion. To chose the new green motor over repairs of the old polluting one, education and individual motivation is required.
"10,000+" boats represents enough consumers to influence industrial development. The number itself is just large enough to be imposing, but small enough to be attainable in just over 3 years. The “+” is intended to encourage program growth, as 50,000 or even 250,000 green boats would be much more desirable.
The "end of 2012" is a reasoned target for complete transition to free market efficiencies. This idea of a free market is a critical element in the likelihood of long term goal achievement. The burden of an artificial market cannot stand the test of time or efficiently distribute the required resources. It may seem ironic that GreenMarineRePower is attempting to bias the market towards environmentally responsible products, yet argues for a free market. Our underlying assumption is one of speed: a free market would eventually arrive at environmentally responsible products if given enough time, since there is no other option (if we no longer have an environment, we no longer have a market). Since we may not have that luxury of time, we need the power of consumer choice to drive the market quickly, and the bias of GreenMarineRePower to steer a course towards sustainability.
"Environmentally benign" is our long term goal, however distant or even possible that seems. While striving for this goal, trend is key. Though GreenMarineRePower would like to take big steps toward marine propulsion that is environmentally benign, even the smallest of steps, in the right direction, are cause for celebration.
The notion of "forward-compatible" was popularized by the rapid pace of the computer industry, and leads to easier, cheaper, and hence more frequent consumer upgrades. This purchasing behavior accelerates and broadens the design cycle, in our case leading to greener products sooner. A tremendous additional advantage is the inherent cross compatibility with other vehicle propulsion industries leading to mutual benefits of quicker economies of scale and more robust designs.
“Advisable” is GreenMarineRePower's principle job. Our Field Representatives individually analyze a client's needs, then advise them of likely products. The client freely chooses, as there is no financially inspired bias in our advice.
